I have already bitched about the cut scene from JE, but reading the transcript today and seeing that it apparently is entirely for real, and was filmed and everything before they cut it, makes me really, really cranky. It was a dumb idea, and a badly written scene, and has the characters behaving completely somewhat differently than they do in a later earlier scene. Fortunately, the fact that it was cut means I can call it non-canonical, which is nice for any number of reasons, not in the least of which it means that something in the story I am writing doesn't get Jossed.

At least this news story about a very, very dumb criminal popped up to help me de-crankify. "Unworkable, barmy and bizarre" doesn't even begin to cover that plot, I think.

(Edited because I re-read the scene and realized it took place later than I thought. BUT IT'S STILL DUMB AS ALL HELL.)

So it was actually filmed? First I hear it was, then I hear it wasn't. (And good luck on convincing anyone it's not OMG GOLD-PLATED CANON if it really was filmed and discarded and is going to show up on DVD extras.)

My take is that whatever isn't on the actual show that someone wants to regard as canonical is their business (the Doctor/Romana shipper in me insists this about several of the tie-in books), but it's when they start declaring that I have to regard it as canonical and am wrong if I don't that I start twitching. This fandom makes me twitch, a lot.

"Gee, Russell, 'The Doctor. In the TARDIS. With Rose Tyler. Just as it should be' is a colossally stupid line."

Has he regenerated yet? And is she, at long last, actually gone for good? This has all long since become a new standard by which to measure tedium.

My take is, if it isn't in the final edit, it isn't canon. (Unless I say otherwise.)

I'm in agreement. I'll withhold final judgment until I see the deleted scene ... but for now, I'm glad they cut it.

Ew. I didn't think I liked the beach scene that much, but clearly it could have been worse.
