What's that sound? Oh, it's just the rats.

... the Star Rats, that is.

Introducing Zappy, an illustrated gray rat with lightning bolts coming out of his lopsided, cockeyed face.

In case you can't wait an entire month for Mystery Hunt, we on Team Palindrome now have an optional prologue available for your enjoyment at starrats.org.

Registration now open for MIT Mystery Hunt 2022!

What I haven't been doing this year: writing fic, doing the analysis I wanted to do for a Gally academic talk submission, drafting a proposal for a chapter in a nonfiction book about DW fandom.

What I've been doing instead: planning the MIT Mystery Hunt.

poster announcing MIT Mystery Hunt registration is open -- yellow background with plain Helvetica type

Registration is now open. If you like complicated puzzles, the Hunt is for you! Feel free to ask me questions about it here, though note that I will probably not be making any public posts about Hunt puzzles I wrote, because they have my real name on them, and this account does not 😅

State of the Hunt

As far as I can tell, this year's Mystery Hunt is still running nearly 59 hours after it first began, though our team captain headed home for good about an hour ago, and I'm about done myself. (I've at least been home most of the day, what with all the snow, and have been collaborating with the team remotely.) I don't know whether to offer the Bombers congratulations or my sympathies for having a Hunt run longer than ours did last year – perhaps I should stick with my friend [livejournal.com profile] jagpatel's phrase, "condulations."

I have loads of things I want to post about the Hunt, especially about the round that I saw for the first time last night right as I was about to go to bed, and which made me howl in anguish so loudly I'm surprised the team couldn't hear me all the way over in building 4. I'd say that [livejournal.com profile] lunchboy was trying to kill me by arranging to have that round posted so late, but he had nothing to do with when our team got access to it.

Anyway, more tomorrow, including a photo or two, after I (ugh) get some work done.

(no subject)

I am home recovering from Day 1 of the Mystery Hunt by sitting next to a snoring cat and watching the BSG premiere. (To which I have to say OMG WTF?!?!?! Repeatedly.)

Also, I must remember to bring my camera to MH events. If I don't, then I don't get photos of things like "Blue-skinned human from the past seeking others, β" written on a chalkboard, which trust me, makes perfect sense in context.

More MH fun and games tomorrow, after sleep, precious, wonderful sleeeeeeeeeep.

For those few of you on my flist who aren't watching [livejournal.com profile] mystery_hunt and would like to see the puzzles, I've just finished posting the entire Hunt to http://web.mit.edu/puzzle/www/08/. Click on each puzzle's "Check Answer" link to view the answer word for that puzzle, or the complete solution, if it's available. (This post has a list of puzzles that currently have solutions.)

THANK GOD IT'S OVER.

Congratulations to the Evil Midnight Bombers What Bomb at Midnight, who found the coin on the fourth floor of Building 24 at 8:26pm tonight.

More photos tomorrow. But now, sleep.
